The Needs

The City is Inside Yourself

Released 05/05/2020

Songs from back when we were all in the city ourselves, together. From four years of dark days, light nights, psychiatric wards, and Marxist reading groups. If it had to boil down to one theme, it seems to be about those things that we just can’t ignore – and there are a lot of them. Captured just in the nick of time before a mini Needs diaspora.

Music/lyric video for Transgressions by Kenny. Shows the creation of the album art from beginning to end. Every element is a direct reference to things mentioned throughout The City is Inside Yourself.

Not That Fun

Released 01/01/2018

We’ve done plenty of “optimistic” albums through the years so I guess there’s been some negativity bottled up for a while, waiting to be released. The Trump era seems like the inevitable time to sing about facing the apparent doom of our increasingly embarrassing society and jobs and growing old and exhausted and becoming all of it all the while. But it’s cool because it’s the first time many of us have played in a band in years if at all and it is actually quite fun.

(Clockwise from top left) Greg, Evan, Konrad, Jordan, and Kenny were not having fun.

Album art by Kenny Korb. Keyboard by Erica Umhoefer on Singalong.
Mixed and mastered by Nolan Eley.
Self-recorded at 2 Prince Street, Brooklyn.
